With that said, here are 10 male K-Pop idol duos that set the stage on fire every time they take over! Note: This article includes both official sub-units and non-subunit duos. It is not a ranking, but there will be a poll at the end of the article where you can vote for your favorite duo. As this is a poll for readers to vote on whenever they find this article, it will not be closed. However, a result article will be posted on November 16, 2022, based on the results as of that date.
BTS’ V & JiMin
Best friends and self-proclaimed “soulmates”, BTS’ V & JiMin make for a musical match made in heaven. V’s baritone complements JiMin’s countertenor like magic, and they blend together as seamlessly as silk. The angelic falsetto JiMin so naturally delivers is enveloped in the warmth of V’s soft yet deep voice. The contrast is mesmerizing, to say the least, and we can never have enough of it. While the studio version of V and JiMin’s collaboration is exceptional, the live experience of their entwined harmony is simply out of this world. ‘Friends’ is timeless, and so is this duo.
BIGBANG’s G-Dragon & TaeYang
When it comes to stage presence, there’s no beating BIGBANG. True to their status as the pioneers of a generation, BIGBANG gave us some incredible duo performances. However, G-Dragon and TaeYang, with their unrivaled energy and matchless skills, conjure up art that is incomparable. The way they can hype up a crowd with simply their aura is the stuff of dreams. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that the GD X TAEYANG duo has attained legendary status and will always be as iconic as they were almost a decade ago.
BTOB’s EunKwang & ChangSub
No conversation about iconic duos would ever be complete without EunKwang and ChangSub. This pair is the complete package: entertainment, vocals, duality, and performance - what more could we ask for? Watching EunKwang and ChangSub together is a sensory delight, and the way they fill up the stage is truly a thing of wonder. The magnetism they ooze even when they’re supposedly playing around is something that commands both respect and adoration. You’ve never truly had the K-Pop experience until you’ve seen these two powerhouses harmonize.
SEVENTEEN’s Hoshi & WooZi
The human embodiment of a ball of fire, Hoshi and WooZi are an unstoppable duo set on world domination. With both individuals being powerful and complete artists in their own right, their collaboration only brings forward excellence to the nth degree. No matter what standard you try to measure them by, whether that be vocals, rap, dance, or expression, Hoshi and WooZi exceed any and all expectations. Their performance of ‘Bring It’ was so flawless that it seemed as though every moment of their lives led up to that one stage, but what is impressive is that they bring this energy to every single stage they ever go on.
Stray Kids’ Han & ChangBin
If there’s a duo that has etched themselves in our hearts right from the moment they stepped into the world of K-Pop, it is Han and ChangBin. The mighty main rappers of Stray Kids pack quite the punch, and the appreciation they deserve is amplified manifold because they are also self-producing idols! Perhaps because they write and produce their own music, the conviction they have in their voices is even more impactful. Their masterful stage presence is especially expressed in the way they bounce off of each other’s energy, and that, in itself, is purely addictive.
ASTRO’s JinJin & Rocky
2022 blessed us with the most refreshing, spectacular, and overwhelmingly exciting subunit we could have ever asked for - JinJin & Rocky, and it was every bit as thrilling as we expected it to be and more. What works so wonderfully well for them is the fusion of JinJin’s vibrant, husky tone and Rocky’s fresh and assertive flow. Even though both members are known for being outstanding rappers, their soulful vocals also shine through in their debut EP “Restore”, expanding the horizons of their artistry and proving that the possibilities are endless for this duo. We cannot wait to see what they have in store for us next!
MONSTA X’s KiHyun & JooHoney
MONSTA X is like the mitochondria of the K-Pop industry: a sheer, unbeatable powerhouse. While there have been several duos that have come from MONSTA X over the years, 2CHAIN (KiHyun and JooHoney) is an invincible pair that needs to make a comeback. The combination of KiHyun’s hearty, golden vocals and JooHoney’s raw, formidable rap is a treasure as rare and elusive as a chimera. The celebrated stage of ‘Mirror’ by 2CHAIN is definitely going down in the history books, and those MONBEBE who witnessed it live are some of the luckiest in the world. This duo is representative of Hallyu’s power, and it will always be lauded as such.
NCT’s TaeYong & Ten
Anyone with a weakness for rapper-vocalist duos will have swooned over TaeYong and Ten’s ‘Baby Don’t Stop’ at least a hundred times in this lifetime, if not more. It is quite literally a rite of passage at this point, and we’re certainly not complaining! TaeYong has a very singularly distinct vocal tone and rap flow that meshes so well with Ten’s smooth, honeyed vocals that the amalgamation is nothing short of a spell that has us all enchanted. They go from an alluring whisper to a bold confession in a matter of seconds, and this contrast manifests itself in the dance just as much as in the music. Only TaeYong and Ten can make us feel this way.
SHINee’s Key & NCT’s Jeno
Out of all the amazing collaborations that happened in K-Pop in 2022, Key and Jeno’s ‘Villain’ was most definitely one of the best. After all, what else would you expect from the coalescence of the best of two generations? Key’s veteran experience and Jeno’s impeccable charisma joined forces for an anthemic release like a syzygy that comes around once in a lifetime. This may have just been a one-off collaboration, but this duo holds the potential to be a full-blown subunit. We don’t know about you but we cannot help but wish for a Key x Jeno album!
TREASURE’s Park JeongWoo & Haruto
Coming in strong as the 4th generation’s ace card, we have Park JeongWoo and Haruto. With a global appeal and an undeniable charm, this duo is the future of K-Pop. Not only do these two young geniuses have an excellent accord, but they also have a long history of being by each other’s side. As such, the artistic nexus that they have built is truly irreplaceable. We’ve seen great things from the HAJEONGWOO duo so far, but it is only the tip of the iceberg. When they decide to unleash the full extent of the power they hold through a subunit debut, the world will be shaking, to say the least.
PENTAGON’s JinHo & Hui
Ever since their debut, PENTAGON’s JinHo and Hui have made a name for themselves as forces to be reckoned with. Not only are they two of the most striking vocalists of all time but their immersion in and dedication to music is also extremely impressive. Jinho and Hui imbue their art with bits of their soul; they breathe life into it and present to us the most captivating masterpiece we’ve ever had the privilege of coming across. So it is no surprise that they have the ability to put their audience in a trance when they come to us as a duo.
WINNER’s MiNo & iKON’s Bobby
We started this list off with a couple of best friends, so it feels quite serendipitous to also conclude it with one. MiNo and Bobby (also known as MOBB) are two of the most talented and brilliant rappers the K-Pop industry has to offer. When they hop on a track together, the effect is quite literally hypnotic. Their rhythm penetrates our veins and makes us groove to their beat while we take all their greatness in, slack-jawed with awe. Most importantly, when MiNo and Bobby collaborate as a duo, they’re not only delivering solid bangers that we can lose ourselves to but also socially relevant art that we can find ourselves with. Talk about trailblazers! Which other K-Pop duos would you add to this list? Tell us in the comments section down below!
